What a weekend that was!

On Saturday night we celebrated Christmas in July at Club Cutlass with Dusk Griswold providing the tunes and we raised about L$134k. This breaks the previous Club Cutlass record for RFL of L$104k set a little over a year ago, also with Duskl Griswold spinning. And the answer to the other teams is, NO she is OURS :)

Our current toal is L$2,100,718 and climbing:)

On the campsite front--things are falling into place. It is going to be spectacular indeed!

Thanks to EVERYONE who has made our Redheaded PASSION so visible this year!

WOW!

While I was away you all raised over L$200,000 -- maybe I should leave again LOL

Couldn't do that though, with relay coming so soon. Thanks to Sabine I could see pictures of our events while I was away, including the beautiful RenFaire organized by Rita Mariner. Merci Rita!

Now on to the present! We had a fabulous weekend with two major events.

On Friday Kendal Timeless arranged a wonderful 3 hour John Prine Tribute Show benefiting RFL via our team -- well you know who we are ;)

On Saturday Cancer Piers arranged for a number of wonderful live performers to entertain and help us raise funds to to fund cancer research. The performers were, give or take a crash or two: 1pm Bara Jonson, 2pm NEwbawn Easterwood, 3pm Quinton Whitman, 4pm Shannon Oherlihy, 5pm Nick Northman, 6pm DW Swashbuckler and 7pm Nate Easterwood


During one of the performer crashes a bunch of us got up on the stage with guitars -- including our "Kitty for a Week," Daaneth Kivioq!

Thanks so very much to Kendal, Cancer and their helpers for superb holiday weekend events!

Rocking With Yahshvah Shinja

Last night the Passionate Redheads were host to TWO angels! Yahshvah Shinja dropped in over at SoCO and blew us away with his harmonica and keyboard. He generously donated all tips to the kiosks.

Just when I didn't think it could get any better, Ariel Zehetbauer, a member of the team and owner of Sensual Nights Ladies' Club, paid a visit to our kiosk, matching all contributions for the concert!

Our team's total for this one hour concert was just under L$30,000; that's over $100! What a night!

Thank you Ariel, what a beautiful Redhead you are!

Thank you Yahshvah, for such a wonderful concert and a successful fundraiser for the Passionate Redheads!

RenFaire!

Samara is on a Romantic European vacation! We're praying for her safe journey, and a happy homecoming.

The Passionate Redheads RenFaire kicked off with the band, Slave Girls Rock, and rock we did!

A beautifully dressed crowd of Lords and Ladies graced the Southern Colorado Sim, which had been transformed by into a virtual Rennaisance Faire for this event. We had expected to be partying there all weekend long, but Second Life had other plans. An unexpected maintenance issue forced us off the sim so many times, the RenFaire was eventually cancelled by Saturday afternoon.

In the time we were there we enjoyed roasting a few Redheads to raise money for Relay, and some of us sold kisses for Lindens! The little shoppes set up by Team Members were a big hit, and we eventually raised over L$10,000, no small feat!

Thanks to all who worked so hard on this project, especially Rita and Shocky. We came away with new friends and lots of good ideas for next year!

And we celebrated your life yesterday with a genuine Blowout Event held at Park Galleries. We raised L$15,000 for RFL and remembered how much fun you were and how much we missed you. DJs Dusk Griswold, Monette Gaea and Shockwave Yareach provided varied and excellent music for us as we danced the afternoon away:)


And per usual for a Passionate Redheads' event, we had the unusual -- a dancing horse who also rides carousels -- our own Alexandra Mensing.

New stuff keeps coming in at our Passionate Redheads RFL Store in Sacre Bleu.

We have clothes, wonderful pink fur avatars, magic crystals and fountains, jewelry, art.. and did I say clothes?
The newest dress is in the center of the picture. It's Danielle Harrop's Pirate Formal. I have to tell you that this dress wears and moves beautifully and the top provides a close-fitting contrast to the bustle and full length striped skirt.

I flanked the newness with two of hyasynth Tiramisu's contributions to our team store. From ~silent sparrow~ on the left is the Valerian Suit in Rose. As always hya has provided more pieces than you can wear at the same time, creating several outfits in one. And no corners are cut--just look at the texturing inside the coat skirt! Valerian is also available in Green at our store. On the right is Nephilim in Candy. This is a bit racier, although I have choosen to wear more of the corset pieces than necessary ;) My shoes for both of hya's outfits are Shiny Things hyasynths of course, worn in Black.

AnnaH Whitfield has also added her Redhead RFL outfit to the store so get yer pixels over there for some shopping for the cause!

In Memory of ... Lachlan Campbell

Service for Lachlan Campbell, May 2 at Hope Gardens, Southern Colorado

On May 2, 2009 we gathered at Hope Gardens at Southern Colorado to remember our friend, Lachlan Campbell. Presiding over the service was the Rev. Gareth Janus of the Anglican Cathedral here in Second Life. Speaking were Marissa Goodliffe and Ren Stonecutter. It was a very moving event organized by us in support of Marissa and Lach's SL friends. Thanks to all that attended, but especially to the Rev. Janus, whose quiet dignity gave us the opportunity to remember reflectively.

Dressing for Relay Events... Lag in Style!

I didn't think I'd be letting my fashion blog spill over to here, but it seems that we all have the question as to what we should wear to a RFL Event, especially a PASSIONATE REDHEAD one such as the Duel of the DJs this Sunday. ;)


So here are two answers:) First the loyal, lower prim version... my Passionate Redheads t-shirt [If you need one of these just ask!] I wear the "male" version cause it has the logo on the front and the team name on the back. With the shirt I am wearing a little black prim skirt. Mine was a group gift from Mischief that I tinted black. Leggings are the Orange ones from the Earth Set from :: M * A * ii * K * I. Shoes are new ones from House of Nyla, Crocodile Pumps in Red. The beads pick up the black in the other items. Hair is by !Lamb, Bang Bang in Dark Carrot, made to benefit Toast Bard of Tableau. Skin is Tuli's Meredith in Captivating Copper, Pale. You could go with slacks rather than the skirt and choose shoes without beads, but, except for Relay itself, this is a relatively low lag outfit. Plus you show your "colors" as a Passionate Redhead ;)


I don't know where to begin with this outfit. It is the Handfasting Gown from Rebel Hope Designs donated to Passionate Redheads for us to help raise money for RFL. Thank you so much Rebel :)

It is a stunning gown, with many options for sleeves and skirts. I choose the version that continues the gold embroidery down the front of the gown. The whole look is worthy of the fanciest RFL ball. The skirt moves beautifully promising many a happy waltz. My jewelry is Dexter Bachman's Vines set, hair is the new Sarah from ETD in Auburn and my skin is from Curio, Sugarplum in Lumine. Now we just need to arrange for a ball :)

Toga! Toga! We had fun and raised 5k for RFL!

Thanks to Redheads Jahman Ochs, Trixie Bumbo and Monette Gaea we were treated to a marvelous Toga Party on Tuesday last. Monette spinned appropriate tunage and all in attendance were toga-errific!

"Best in Toga" was won by our Redhead hedgehog, TomasMcConnell Sands, whose sartorial splendor blinded us all ;) Unfortunately I didn't get a good picture so you'll have to take my word. Then in true Redhead fashion, Thomas put his winnings into the nearest RFL kiosk-ours of course!

Thanks to the folks at The Bottom Line! It was a nice silly break in a serious season.

Why I Relay -- from Edith Halderman & Envy Watts

I relay in memory of my mother. She was diagnosed with brain cancer when I was eight. She had surgery, chemo, & cobalt (it was a while ago) when I was 9 yrs old. She was optimistically given a year to live. She lived 20 years.

I also have known, as I'm sure we all have, many precious people who were diagnosed. Carrie was a good friend, who went home while a group of us where away at a conference. I had to present at that conference the next day. I tearfully dedicated that presentation to her.

Sitting here thinking of other people I have known only makes me want to cry.

Our fund raising for Relay for Life topped the L$1 million mark!!! This is already almost half of what we raised last year in the whole relay season! As I am posting we have raised L$1,024,600 in total for 2009.


The Passionate Redheads Benefit Concert was amazing. Super talent including Strummer Vultee and Jaycatt Nico & Frogg Marlowe. Rhiley Luminos even pitched in at the beginning--that's the kind of people we have in RFL :)

Why I Relay -- from Daaneth Kivioq

I relay for my RL big sister, Anne Rose Martens, who died from complications of Pancreatic Cancer in January of 2007.

Anne was one of my pillars of strength during my darkest hours, and I relay in her memory. She left behind a legacy of love that will last forever.

I relay for Artistic Fimicoloud, - in RL Stephanie Koslow, killed by breast cancer in May of 2008. "Fimi" was one of the members of the Passionate Redheads Relay Team here in SL. She loved being a part of relay, and her bright spirit inspired us all. When she died, we did not mourn her death, we celebrated her life, because she made each day of her life a celebration, right up until the end.

I relay for my beloved Sabine McGettigan, my SL partner, and the love of my life. Sabine is a ten year survivor of breast cancer, and the Captain of our relay team. She has motivated us all and helped us take our team to new heights. Her driving Passion for life shows in everything she does. That's why our team is called the Passionate Redheads. This year, we have raised over 2.5 Million lindens for the cause - eight times what we were able to raise last year. Sabine leads us, inspires us, and makes us all feel loved.

I relay for all the dedicated scientists, engineers, technicians, nurse, doctors, therapists, and researchers who are working every day to bring us closer to the goal of killing the monster that is cancer.

But most of all, I relay for you. I hope and pray that you who are reading this never hear the words "you have cancer" - but, if, god forfend you ever do - I want to be also able to hear "and we can cure that now."

What a Saturday! We're now *almost* at L$800k!!!

We had two events yesterday and raised well over L$500,000 to help fund the cure.


The Date Auction organized by Leala Spire & Ariel Zehetbauer and held at Ariel's Club, Sensual Desires, raised L$500,000 alone.


Some of most eligible and delightfully delicious avatars inworld were auctioned off at amazing bids, including many Passionate Redheads. Here we have IshtarAngel Micheline, who took these pictures, strutting her stuff!


The second event was a 4 hr Party at the Sunweaver's Club Cutlass. DJs were Redheads Monette Gaea and Dusk Griswold. Many Redheads were in attendance, including Sunweaver Goddesss, Rita Mariner. We raised well over L$20k for Relay.

Thanks to the Saturday events we are very close to L$800k!!! Why I Relay--from Sabine McGettigan

I am a breast cancer survivor. I did everything "right"...didn't smoke or drink, ate all natural foods, exercised like a Marine! Even my fruit trees got eaten up by bugs because I would not use pesticides. I breast fed four babies. No family members had ever gotten cancer. With no risk factors whatsoever, I thought I was immune, but I still got cancer.

Because of research funded by the American Cancer Society. I lived to raise my sons. I've lived to see grandchildren arrive, and I've lived to take my granddaughter to see the sun set over Sedona!

I relay so that my daughter and granddaughter might never have to face the terror that I felt during that long cold winter of chemotherapy.

I relay because of beautiful friends right here in Second Life who are even now facing cancer treatment and living with the fear and uncertainty of never knowing when or if it will come back.

I relay because I'm Passionate for a Cure!

What a Party!

The Passionate Redheads started RFL 2009 with a wonderful party held at Park Galleries, formerly owned by the late Artistic Fimicoloud. Jahman Ochs of The Bottom Line Cabaret DJed and provided us with 2 hours of fabulous tunes. Attendance was steady over the 2 hours, with visits from MamaP Beerbaum, Morgan Kincess, Dwen Dooley among others, showing again that Relay is for ALL of us. Besides Redheads know how to party-yes we do!


By the time we crawled off having given our all, our kiosk total was over L$50,000. Watch out grid-the Redheads are BACK!

Let the Redhead RFL Shopping Begin!

We have a number of wonderful Redhead content creators on our team who are donating one or more of their items to RFL fundraising for Passionate Redheads. There will be more posts to come, but here's a preview to get your started on this Kick Off Weekend!


Our "Passionate Bluehead," hyasynth Tiramisu, has donated 3 items to fund the cure, the Nephilim Suite and 2 Valerian Suites, suitable for both men and women. They will be available both at her store, ~silent sparrow~ and at the RFL Clothing Fair starting March 16.

Samsara Nishi of Sam's Secret has donate "Escaping from Pirates" in Teal to us. Available at her booth at the RFL Clothing Fair starting March 16.

Two of our fine jewelers, Mouse Mimistrobell and Hibiscus Flossberg have their items available in their stores. Hibiscus has donated her whole Gypsy Set in Pinks, including the tamborine :) Available at her store, Puarangi Designs through Relay. Mouse's contribution is a Pink Tourmaline version of her Spheres set in Silver. This is available by paying the RFL Kiosk at least L$150 at her store, Dark Mouse.

So there is no excuse not to be both well dressed AND funding the cure!

Team members are already suggesting some amazing fundraising events. Just a reminder that we need the details the Monday BEFORE the week of the event in order to get it on the Official Relay Calendar.

Welcome to The Passionate Redheads SL ™ Relay for Life Blog

Your captain and co-captains will try to do our best to keep you informed of Relay and Redheads plans and activities, so bookmark us now!

FIRST:

Kickoff is this Saturday, March 14 starting at 10am SLT.

We'll have more details and get you landmarks closer to the event.

Also several Passionate Redheads are participating in the Relay Clothing Fair and we THINK they will be able to set their vendors to our team. In any case it all goes to the same cause--so visit their booths and help fund the cure!

We are also planning an event for Sunday morning, March 15 for our own kick-off. Again more details will be forthcoming as soon as they are set.

Be sure to take a moment to check the group membership list as we've added a number of wonderful and talented people. We hope you will welcome them warmly in the Redheads fashion :)
